Training and Credentials
After graduating from USQ with a Psychology degree in 1992, Honni began her career as a Youth Worker at a crisis shelter for homeless teenagers in Brisbane city. She later completed a Graduate Diploma in Counselling at CHC. She is a Clinical Counsellor registered with PACFA (Psychotherapist and Counsellors Federation of Australia).
Honni has undertaken extra training to become an Accredited EMDR Therapist, registered with EMDRAA.
Under Honni’s thoughtful guidance, clients are encouraged to practice intentional self-care in five key areas of their lives using a clear ‘STEPS’ framework. This is where each aspect of self-care is represented: Social, Thinking, Emotional, Physical and Spiritual. Supported by the STEPS framework, Honni’s clients soon experience a level of emotional wellbeing and self-awareness that naturally pave the way for positive personal growth.
Honni assists her clients to let go of past events that obstruct their thinking. She guides them in a thorough exploration of their present life circumstances so they can develop strategies for achieving the future they want. In appropriate circumstances, Honni uses powerful Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. During EMDR, carefully chosen target memories are selected for re-processing by simulating eye movements. After processing, the memories are not forgotten but no longer have such a negative impact on a client’s life.
Completing a Relationship Check-up Questionnaire helps Honni identify areas in a relationship that need attention. The couple then work with Honni to examine natural relationship stages and unhelpful relationship myths. They develop effective communication strategies including setting comfortable boundaries; and learning to rekindle passion. This may also include identifying patterns in a client’s life that are not conducive to good relationships and developing strategies to change them.
Honni and Tony, her husband of 29 years, moved to Queensland’s beautiful Scenic Rim in 2004. They have raised five amazing children together. Although Covid-19 ruined her plans to celebrate her fiftieth birthday with a trip to Europe, she still holds firm to her childhood dream of one day standing in a tulip field in Holland!
Honni has a mature understanding of life and its challenges, is friendly and professional. Honni is a great listener, who is able to put anyone at ease. She has a real interest in people, is non-judgmental and genuinely empathetic.
